The event also marked the opening of Dayanita\u2019s exhibition A Photo Architect<\/i>. On a balmy spring evening, the book was ceremoniously unwrapped and \u2018released\u2019 according to local tradition by Dayanita\u2019s first photography teacher, Mr. Dalwadi. After the debut screening of the book's accompanying video, a conversation between Dayanita and Apartamento\u2019s editorial director, Robbie Whitehead followed, moderated by Apartamento contributor and friend to the magazine, Komal Sharma. Together they unraveled the compositions of Dayanita's photography and the art of bookmaking, reflecting on Mr Doshi's home as a theatre of symmetry and affection. Featuring original photography by Quentin de Briey and Mr Doshi's own archival imagery, <\/span>Kamala House<\/span><\/i><\/a> opened up the home with texts by the architect, as well as multidisciplinary artist Durga Chew-Bose. Durga understood the home as \u2018a testament to design that discloses instead of withholding, that is regenerative because, like Doshi, it is a home open to inquiry\u2019.\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nMr Doshi was first featured in <\/span>Apartamento Magazine<\/span><\/i> issue #22<\/span><\/a>, interviewed by Komal Sharma and photographed by Bikramjit Bose in his beloved Kamala House\u2014the very year he became the first Indian architect to receive the prestigious Pritzker Prize. <\/span>\u2018But really, the idea is to create the sense of an infinite space. Think of it like a core and a periphery that keeps on expanding\u2019, he shared about conceptualising the house. \u2018We live, we rejoice, we all feel ownership of this place\u2019.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nCaptivated not only by the beauty of his architectural creations but also by his more intimate artistic practices,<\/span> we published \u2018<\/span>A world of imagination: drawings by BV Doshi<\/span><\/a>\u2019 where the architect Khushnu Panthaki Hoof, Mr Doshi's granddaughter, explains his visual artwork as a space where \u2018childlike fascination, curiosity, and wonder take over, and logic has no meaning\u2019. That spirit carried into her deeply personal tribute after his passing in early 2023, \u2018<\/span>In memory of Balkrishna Doshi<\/span><\/a>\u2019, in <\/span>Apartamento magazine<\/span><\/i> issue #31. That same issue featured \u2018<\/span>Dayanita Singh\u2019<\/span><\/a>, interviewed by contributing editor Zico Judge alongside never-before-seen photographs taken by Dayanita herself. He asked them if they could design a series of posters for the book launch in both Gujarati and English. In no time, a spontaneous design studio was at work, with each typographer interpreting the book, and even the Apartamento logo, with unique flair. There, in the very spaces BV designed to cradle his own family, we offered the book in a symbolic presentation to him\u2014in reverence, in admiration, and in recognition of the temple he built, not just of light, but of family. Kamala House is a home shaped by a distinct physical reality\u2014a helix of stillness, languor, and repose. It was an honour to launch the book within its walls, a culmination of a story we have been in awe of and privileged to take part in
